How To Create A Practice Plan

WHAT ARE PRACTICE PLANS?

Practice Plans are ready-made practices you can use right inside the TeamSnap ONE app. They’re built to help you show up prepared, without having to Google ideas shortly before practice.

Each plan walks through a full practice from start to finish, with age-appropriate drills, simple guidance, and high-quality instruction developed alongside professional league and coaching partners, including NFL FLAG, Major League Soccer, Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA, Major League Baseball, FC Barcelona, the Premier Lacrosse League, and the Art of Coaching Volleyball.

With TeamSnap ONE, you get access to proven, reliable content at no extra cost so that you can focus on the kids and spend less time sleuthing the internet for what you need.

WHY USE PRACTICE PLANS?

Think of Practice Plans as an assistant coach, designed to take the stress out of planning for practice.

With Practice Plans, coaches can:

  • Spend less time planning and more time coaching.
  • Feel confident running practice, especially if you’re new or juggling a lot.
  • Run structured, balanced, and age-appropriate practices.
  • Give players and parents a clear idea of what practice will look like.

They’re designed for the busy schedules, mixed abilities, and limited time on the field that characterize youth sports.

WHAT’S INSIDE A PRACTICE PLAN?

Each Practice Plan gives you a clear path for your time on the field:

  • A full practice outline

Warm-ups, drills, small-sided games, and a wrap-up, laid out in order so you’re never wondering what’s next.

  • Short, easy-to-follow videos

Quick clips that show how to set up each drill and what it should look like in action.

  • Simple written tips

Straightforward instructions on how to organize players and what to focus on while the drill runs.

  • An equipment checklist that fits your team

The app adjusts quantities based on your roster size, so you know what to bring before you leave home.

If you’ve got a few minutes before practice, you’ll feel prepared. If you’re running late, you can still pull the plan up on your phone and keep things moving.

Once you’ve selected a plan, you can click into the full plan and:

  • Adjust the time spent on each drill (for example, add more time to a favorite drill and shorten another).
  • Remove the entire plan from the practice if you change your mind.
  • Replace it with a different Practice Plan from the library.

The total plan length will default to match your practice duration, so make sure to balance things out if you adjust the timings.

PRACTICE PLANS VS. AT-HOME TRAINING

Practice Plans At-Home Training
Context Built for team practices run on the field with your full group. Designed for individual skill work that players can do on their own, outside of scheduled practices.
Availability Practice Plans are available to coaches and teams whose organizations use TeamSnap ONE, at no additional cost. Players and parents need an active TeamSnap+ subscription to access At-Home Training on their own.

How They Work Together

Think of it like this:

  • Practice Plans = What you run with the team
  • At-Home Training = Extra reps between practices

Together, they help players improve both on and off the field.

GET STARTED

If any members of your team have ever asked, “What are we doing today?”— Practice Plans are here to help.

Open your next practice in TeamSnap ONE, add a plan, and run a practice you can feel good about, without the extra stress.

LOOKING AHEAD

We’re continuing to invest in Practice Plans based on feedback. In future updates, we’re exploring ways to give coaches more flexibility, including:

  • Customizing individual drills within a plan
  • Mixing and matching drills across multiple plans
  • Creating fully custom practice plans

Our goal is to make Practice Plans even more adaptable for coaches.
